Finally, all or almost all the crops are gathered in, safely stored in root cellar, freezer, and canning jars. Our last crops to be harvested are usually carrots, celery, cabbages, fall lettuces, peas, daikons, beets, and then finally cauliflower and broccoli. We were blessed with an abundance again this year. Before the first hard freeze I had enough excess lettuce, celery, cabbage, and pea greens, to invite friends and neighbors to come and fill grocery bags with goodies. It was a beautiful way to kick off the season of gratitude.
November is also a time for tidying up the garden, taking down trellises and composting dead plant materials. There is still plenty to do outside on sunny cold days! Though it is getting chillier, it is still wonderful to get outside and absorb much needed sunshine. I hope this checklist helps you continue to get out in the garden and get everything ready for the winter season ahead.
